The Uncanny Carnival, hosted by the NewBridge Project and developed by comedian Seymour Mace, is coming to Shieldfield this Saturday.

Inspired by travelling shows and summer fairs, the Uncanny Carnival will be a joyful, rebellious celebration of self-expression, silliness, and solidarity.

The family-friendly event takes place on City Stadium Park from 11:00-15:00, and features a packed bill of live on-stage comedy and entertainment and a field full of games and stalls - from an uncanny reimagining of Punch and Judy to face painting, Bubble-ology and a fancy dress catwalk competition.

“Uncanny Carnival will be a place to play, a place for everyone to have fun – especially those who have ever felt othered, or like they don’t fit in,” said Izaak Gledhill from the NewBridge Project. “It’s about showing up as

your whole self, on your own terms, and honouring the fools and misfits who paved the way.”

The live stage is hosted by comedian Elaine Roberston and Open Drag Collective, and the carnival will end with a fabulous fancy dress catwalk competition. Expect more comedy from Felt Nowt and Seymour Mace, performances by Shieldfield Youth Programme, Chilli Studios and Sound Games, a Photo Booth by artist David Hall, ‘communi-tea’ making with The Comfrey Project, and stalls from North Tyneside Art Studio, ReCoCo, NewBridge Books and Chilli Studios.
