We've got Perfect from Tyneside-based singer songwriter Rye playing on repeat here at the moment.
Existing somewhere between the most harrowing spoken word - and utterly sublime melodies - the track features on the upcoming debut EP from the Lithuanian born artist, that must surely herald a trajectory increase for her authentic, honest and sometimes painful sound.
'I Feel Everything' documents the journey from a happy but naïve outlook on the world and love, into a more realistic, raw, and all-encompassing reality. Just as we gather painful experiences over time, each song on this EP grows darker, more melancholic, brutally honest, and imbued with deeper pain. However, it doesn't end in despair.
With a back-story that exposed the artist to experimental rock, underground electronic music together with the evocative tradition of the sung poetry that emerged in the 1960s as a form of protest - and to keep national identity alive - while Lithuania was under Soviet control, there is a depth and meaning to this 20something's voice that exquisitely pre-dates her years.
A clear passion for language - and languages, Rye's tender yet often pain-filled vocals shift seamslessly from English, to her native Lithuanian, to Spanish and back again, as she creates a silken dream-state for the listener to escape into - while at the same time handing you the sharpest of knives to hold - in the form of the spoken word woven through her compositions.
Rye's team tell us ahead of the EP's October release that: 'The central message of 'I Feel Everything' is: Pain is inevitable but you don't have to be consumed by it. It comes and goes.'
If you're at a moment in your own life where you are drawn to exploring the complexities of human nature, our tendencies towards ambivalence, and our limitations, particularly during our darkest times - then this artist's musings should feature as the soundtrack.
'I Feel Everything' is released on 25 October 2024 on the Self Label
