A national organisation with an unparalelled record of pointing any of us who might need it - in the right direction, has just received an Ofsted 'thumbs up' for the work being done in the North East.
Nacro are constantly working for a society where everyone has the chance to succeed and the support they need to achieve their potential. Where a safe secure home, a decent education and a second chance when things go wrong are the foundations we can all build our lives on.
Nacro Education Newcastle has just been awarded an Ofsted Good grading. The education centre in Benfield has been running since 2017 and is part of 13 centres Nacro run nationally, helping hundreds of young people with educational attainment each year.
Nacro Education Newcastle offers vocational courses and English and Maths GCSEs. Nacro Education is open to all young people but its smaller class sizes and more personalised support often appeals to those who have struggled in mainstream education or have additional support needs.
The Ofsted report said: “Many learners start with significant barriers. Staff support them to enjoy and value their studies, including subjects like English and mathematics where many learners had previously had negative experiences.”
Elise Temple, Principal & Director of Education and Skills at Nacro, one of the UK’s largest independent training providers, said: “This Ofsted result represents all the hard work and commitment our education team put in every day. They don’t just teach subjects, they do so much more. They build confidence, break down barriers, and help our students see the bright future they deserve. I am incredibly proud of everyone who works for Nacro Education and what we achieve every day for our students and apprentices.”
Nacro Education Newcastle is currently running courses in animal care, construction, civil engineering, and motor vehicle mechanics, giving young people the hands-on vocational qualifications, skills and experience they need to develop their career.
Ofsted noted: “Leaders develop ambitious curriculums to prepare learners and apprentices with the skills they need to succeed in both their work and personal lives. Younger apprentices mature and become role models in their workplace.”
Nacro Education Newcastle has recently launched a supported internship programme with the Marriott Gateshead. Young people with special education needs are given the opportunity to work within the hotel learning the various roles in the company, alongside on-site support and classroom learning from Nacro staff.
Nacro Education Newcastle have places available for courses with September start dates.
