Following their outstanding ‘Summer Serenade’ concert, Bolton Cancer Voices is keen to encourage more people to experience the joy of singing.

Currently 35 strong, this inspirational Choir is open to anyone 18 years and over living with or beyond cancer of any kind. There are no geographical restrictions, as long as you can travel to the centre of Bolton for rehearsals: membership is free, there are no auditions to worry about and you don’t need tobe able to read music.

The Choir recently celebrated its 12th Birthday and despite a prolonged period apart during and following Covid, they have returned louder, prouder, bolder and stronger; determined to stand up tocancer and never allow it to define them or inhibit their aspirations.

Karen Elliott – Founder & Chair of the Choir said: "Everyone is just buzzing after our highly acclaimed concert last Friday. It was very special for the Choir for many reasons - it was our first concert in over 4 years -the inaugural concert with Katie – our new Musical Director, who joined us in August 2023 - the first performance experience for many of the new members and sadly the final concert for Mark, our retiring Accompanist, who’s been with the Choir almost since the start and played a fundamental role in building the Choir into what it is today. It was wonderful to see the Choir thoroughly enjoying the fruits of their labours; to see them receive a well-deserved standing ovation and to hear the many truly heart-warming comments from audiencemembers.

"Now’s the perfect time for new members to come on-board, as preparations get underway for our next exciting venture.

"We know cancer can be a lonely journey, even when surrounded by loved ones. Here at Bolton Cancer Voices you are shoulder to shoulder with people who understand the challenges that can accompany life with or beyond cancer but nevertheless resolutely set aside such issues, focusing on learning the next song, looking forward to the next engagement, having fun and connecting with others who share their love of singing or are wanting to try something new."

The Choir also currently has an opening for the role of Accompanist. They are seeking someone with excellent musicianship and proficient sight reader skills; experienced in playing a wide variety of musical styles and genre. A strong ethos of teamwork, with the ability to take direction quickly from the Musical Director is a must, as is the shared goal of ensuring the Choir strives to be the best it can be at all times. Previous experience of accompanying Choirs is preferred.
